As we come to a year’s close this month, we did not know what to expect as far as attendance. Many of our wonderful and committed writers have been unable to attend many meetings, although when they do, we are thrilled by their attendance and their accomplishments. Continue reading

The Writers group will meet Wednesday, October 11 at 1:30 in the library. Meetings resume in late spring.
We’re looking for some weather spotters in Blue Mountain Lake and Indian Lake. In coordination with our program on Climate Change you can sign up for free weather spotter training on Monday, October 16. The program will take place at 6 PM at the theater. We need 10 people to sign up IN ADVANCE to make this happen so call the library and sign up!
The Indian Lake Library will be closed on Monday for the Columbus Day holiday and reopen with Winter Hours on Tuesday.

Dave Ruch will be performing Traditional Music of the Adirondacks on Sunday, October 8 at 7 PM, at the Indian Lake Theater. This is a free family concert, the final event of the Library Program, Tall Tales &Short Tunes: Family Literacy through Story and Song. It’s free, 
funded and made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

US Global Change Research Program Climate Science Special Report (Fifth Order Draft, 28 June 2017). This is a final draft report by scientists from 13 federal agencies. The report is part of the National Climate Assessment that is mandated by congress every four years. Some refer to this as the ‘leaked’ report, but this draft, and previous drafts, have been available online for many months.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (climate indicators) published a report, ‘Climate Change Indicators in the United States (Fourth Edition, 2016)’. The authors state that: “The Earth’s climate is changing. Temperatures are rising, snow and rainfall patterns are shifting, and more extreme climate events–like heavy rainstorms and record high temperatures–are already happening. Many of these observed changes are linked to the rising levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, caused by human activities.”
