Dave Ruch will be performing Traditional Music of the Adirondacks on Sunday, October 8 at 7 PM, at the Indian Lake Theater.  This is a free family concert, the final event of the Library Program, Tall Tales &Short Tunes: Family Literacy through Story and Song.  It’s free, funded and made possible in part with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature and administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for the Arts.

US Global Change Research Program Climate Science Special Report (Fifth Order Draft, 28 June 2017). This is a final draft report by scientists from 13 federal agencies. The report is part of the National Climate Assessment that is mandated by congress every four years. Some refer to this as the ‘leaked’ report, but this draft, and previous drafts, have been available online for many months.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (climate indicators) published a report, ‘Climate Change Indicators in the United States (Fourth Edition, 2016)’. The authors state that: “The Earth’s climate is changing. Temperatures are rising, snow and rainfall patterns are shifting, and more extreme climate events–like heavy rainstorms and record high temperatures–are already happening. Many of these observed changes are linked to the rising levels of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in our atmosphere, caused by human activities.”

Our first meeting to discuss “Zeitoun” by Dave Eggers has been postponed until October 4th because of scheduling conflicts, BUT our NOAA meteorologist promises weather tracking training as an added bonus for our October 16 book discussion on water rights based on the book, “The Water Knife” by Paolo Bacigalupi.  The final program is scheduled for November 9th with “Odds Against Tomorrow” by Nathaniel Rich.  All programs begin at 6 PM, are free and refreshments will be served. Registration is suggested, books are at the library

Wi-fi is still available 24/7 and summer hours continue through Columbus Day Weekend- you gotta believe!
