Library Manager Opening

The Board of Trustees of the Town of Indian Lake Public Library, serving the hamlets of Indian Lake, Sabael and Blue Mountain Lake located in the central Adirondacks, is seeking to hire a part time, salaried, 26 hours per week Library Manager starting April 2018. With a user population of about 1400 which expands significantly in the summer season, we need a person that is dynamic, creative, enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal skills who will support the library’s commitment to providing exceptional service to the community.  We are a member of the Southern Adirondack Library System (SALS). The Manager reports to a five member board of trustees and holds primary responsibility for the operation and management of the Library. Along with regular patron service responsibilities, other duties include collection, service, and program planning and management; budget management; supervising staff and volunteers; public relations and community outreach; fund raising; and grant writing.

The position is 26 flexible hours per week with a schedule that supports library services, programs, and events and will involve some evenings and weekends. The candidate will need to demonstrate flexibility, excellent communication skills, strong technology skills, and an appreciation for the importance of public library service in a small community. Demonstrated experience in library service, staff and volunteer supervision, budgeting and facility management will also be highly desirable. Fund-raising and grant writing experience will be considered a plus.

The Library Manager’s annual salary will be $21,000 to $23,000 with benefits based on the selected candidate’s education, skills and experience.
